i i Preface PaleoBios, Volume 15 The map of California above notes the geographic position of the fossil localities presented in this volume. The numbers on the map correspond to the papers as numbered in the Table of Contents on the previous page. California possesses a rich resource of Pleistocene deposits that every year yield new fossil discoveries. Many of these finds are known to local researchers but few are widely published. The present volume represents an attempt to document part of this unpublished record. We hope that this will be the first of many such special publications devoted to enhancing our understanding of the biota of California during this significant period in earth history. Robert G.
